Fitment & Compatibility Guide

Will the REV Roof Top Tent X fit my vehicle?

The REV Platform X mounts to any factory or aftermarket roof rack system with crossbars. Before purchasing, confirm all four of the following for your specific year/make/model/trim:

  • Vehicle Year / Make / Model / Trim — Crossbar spread and roof curvature vary significantly even within the same model line. Check your owner's manual or the rack manufacturer's fit guide for your exact trim.
  • Roof System Type — The Platform X is compatible with bare roofs (with a fit kit), raised side rails, flush side rails, fixed-point systems, and track systems. Confirm your roof type before selecting mounting hardware.
  • Crossbar Dynamic Weight Rating — Your crossbars must carry the dynamic (driving) load, not just the static (parked) load. Dynamic ratings are typically 50–70% lower than static ratings. The REV Roof Top Tent X package weighs approximately 88 lbs; your crossbars should be rated for at least 165 lbs dynamic to include occupant weight while driving. Verify the dynamic rating on your crossbar manufacturer's spec sheet — do not rely on roof rack manufacturer estimates alone.
  • Ladder Reach — The included ladder extends to reach a rooftop height of up to approximately 70 inches from the ground. Measure your vehicle's roof height at the mounting point before ordering if clearance is a concern.

⚠️ Not sure about fitment for your specific setup? Contact us before purchasing — we'll confirm compatibility with your crossbar brand and vehicle.

Which crossbar brands are compatible?

The REV Platform X uses a standard T-slot / track mounting interface and is compatible with most major crossbar systems, including Yakima, Thule, Rhino-Rack, and INNO. Crossbar spread should be between 24 and 48 inches for optimal load distribution. If your crossbar brand or spread falls outside this range, contact us for guidance.

What is the difference between a dynamic and static roof rating?

Your vehicle's roof load rating (found in your owner's manual) is a static rating — it applies only when the vehicle is parked and stationary. When driving, road vibration and cornering forces multiply the effective load. Most manufacturers and rack experts recommend treating the dynamic limit as roughly 50% of the static figure. Always verify the dynamic rating of your crossbars with the crossbar manufacturer directly, as this is the number that governs safe highway use with a rooftop tent.

Condensation Management FAQ

Why does condensation form inside a rooftop tent?

Condensation is a natural result of sleeping — two occupants can release over a liter of moisture per night through respiration and body heat. When warm, humid air contacts the cooler tent shell or mattress underside, moisture condenses. This is normal and does not indicate a defect.

How do I reduce condensation?

  • Ventilation first — Open the roof vent and at least one mesh window panel before sleeping, even in cold weather. Airflow is the single most effective way to carry moisture out of the tent.
  • Crack the door — If temperatures allow, leave the entry door slightly unzipped at the base to create a cross-draft.
  • Avoid wet gear inside — Damp clothing, wet boots, and wet towels dramatically increase interior humidity. Store wet items in a dry bag outside the tent.
  • Use a tent footprint or ground cloth when pitching on the ground to block ground moisture from wicking up through the platform.

How do I dry out the tent and mattress before storage?

  1. After your trip, open the tent fully and allow it to air out for at least 30–60 minutes before folding — ideally in direct sunlight or a well-ventilated garage.
  2. Wipe down any visible condensation on the interior shell with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
  3. Stand the mattress on its edge or fold it open to expose both surfaces to airflow. Do not store the mattress compressed while damp.
  4. Once fully dry to the touch, fold and close the tent. Leaving moisture trapped inside can lead to mildew and fabric degradation over time.
  5. If storing for an extended period (off-season), consider placing a small silica gel desiccant pack inside the folded tent.

Is the tent treated for moisture resistance?

The REV Tent rainfly uses a waterproof-rated fabric; however, interior condensation forms on the inside surface regardless of the rainfly's external waterproofing. Regular ventilation and proper drying before storage are the primary protections against moisture-related wear.
